Fantastical and stunning works and admire the impulse that drove the artist to conceptualize the "birth. mark" series. At the same time, it's a grim anecdote to know about the woman who was abused by her lover and the consequences of the act. Vidya Kamat makes a point about "how the entire identity of the woman was erased because of her defacement" .... this photo series appears almost cyborgian in its reconstruction of the woman's face - part embroidery, part self - lending her a new dual identity.
