Back in my Cultural Studies class, we were taught that an artist exists on the fringes and is an observer of society's rituals and rules. But listening to Gieve gives us a new perspective - that an artist has to be - is - an active participant and influencer of society in order to be able to paint a more relatable, empathetic portrayal of us. This is a wonderful video
