Wow, this was a slowly unfolding, almost torturous, rumination about the artist's interests, influences and materialities. It's interesting to hear details of his socio-cultural milieu and childhood because that allows us to place his stimuli, his impulses and outputs within a historical, geographical as well as artistic narrative. The artist has experienced a complete sense of alienation, exclusion and othering all his life because of his alternate sexuality, and also grew up with a sense of being confined and not having the literal and metaphorical space to articulate his inner realities. Jahangir Jani has also moved from one media to another, constantly exploring and pushing the boundaries of how pliable the materials could be in embracing his artistic vision.
